Funding Cuts for Medicaid and Affordable Care

The federal government has recently cut funding for many programs in the healthcare field that assist low-income families and individuals, such as Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act’s Navigator Program. These organizations have been stable resources for Americans to take care of themselves and their families for many years, as their programs can provide options for health insurances and support needs for physical check-ups, purchases of prescriptions, and other costs that not everyone can afford.

The federal government has been proposing to cut funds for the famous Medicaid Program, which is an organization that provides health insurance to low-income Americans, people with disabilities that need medical assistance and devices, and people experiencing ongoing treatments. Cutting the funding for Medicaid would cause the program to reduce their coverages for insurance, and many communities would lose what could be their only source of support. Healthcare has always been unnecessarily expensive and a funding cut like this would only increase the financial burden on families that already struggle with money.

The federal government also cut funds for the Affordability Care Act Outreach Program, specifically their “Navigator program”. The Affordable Care Act, or the ACA, is a law that was passed in 2010 that makes health insurance more affordable and accessible to low-income families, people with disabilities, and medical conditions that require a lot of cost. This act provides subsidies, or financial assistance from the government, that help lower costs in American households. The ACA’s outreach/navigation program helps individuals find options for health insurance so that they can get treatments and check-ups without having to worry about expenses for them or their families. Because of the government cutting some of the funding for this program, low-income families who depend on it will lose their insurance coverage and will struggle to pay expenses, which can be incredibly dangerous if there is an unexpected medical issue that needs treatment.
